Iowa Poultry Association Statement on Voluntary Recall of Eggs

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued their Form 483 findings relative to the recent voluntary recall of shell eggs.  This is the next step in an evolving process of dealing with the voluntary recall.  The Iowa Poultry Association will continue to analyze these reports and other information as the process continues toward its conclusion.

This situation has historically been an extremely rare occurrence but consumers should understand Iowa’s egg farmers take it very seriously.

As a reminder, consumers who are concerned about eggs they have purchased should look for the plant number and Julian dates described on the FDA website (www.fda.gov) or the Egg Safety Center (www.eggsafety.org). Dates and codes can be found stamped on the end of egg cartons as shown on the FDA website.  If you have any of these cartons, contact the store at which they were purchased.
