New Directors Elected to OAFE Board

Milton, ON - At the 24th Annual General Meeting of Ontario Agri-Food Education Inc. (OAFE) held in Guelph on April 3rd, the Board of Director elections resulted in the re-election of two Corporate Directors, and the election of two new Directors, one each for Corporate and Community seats, all for three year terms.
 
Keith Currie, Curriedale Farms and Peter Hohenadel, Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, were both re-elected as Corporate Directors while Carolyn Hill, representing Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg and Chick Commission was newly elected to the third available Corporate Seat. “As a life-long learner, OAFE’s philosophies strongly align with my own beliefs,” commented Carolyn. “The work this organization is doing is so important not only to promote agriculture but to help educate and empower Ontario’s youth. OBHECC recognizes the importance of the work OAFE is doing and is eager to offer support to achieve its mission.”

Theresa Watt, a secondary school educator with the Simcoe County School Board, was acclaimed as a Community Director. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to the important work that OAFE does,” said Theresa. “I believe that accurate and widespread education regarding food production and food choices is critical for young people as it will enable them to become healthy and informed consumers.”

Corporate Director, Lynn Fischer, Ontario Dairy Goat Cooperative Inc., and Community Director, Sharon Grose from Alma, Ontario, retired from the board this year and were recognized from the podium for their contributions and support over the past three years. Perry Wilson, Vice-Chair of the Board and representing Farm Credit Canada as a Corporate Director, stepped down this year and will be replaced by Jennifer Peart for the remainder of the FCC term.

Board members returning for 2014-15 include Lorie Jocius, Laura Kozloski and Kelly Duffy as Community Directors; Lillie Ann Morris, L.A. Morris & Associates; Audrie Bouwmeester, Dairy Farmers of Ontario; Leanne Cooley, Poultry Industry Council and Bruce Magee, CropLife Canada as Corporate Directors; plus one advisor each from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the Ontario Ministry of Education.

Lorie Jocius will continue as Chair of the OAFE Board, commenting, “I am greatly honoured to continue serving as OAFE Chair. Over the last two years, I have witnessed dramatic change and look forward to a future when both the public and private sectors join together to broadcast the facts about our great agricultural future into schools across Ontario.” Joining Lorie on the Board executive for the coming year are Keith Currie as Vice-Chair and Bruce Magee as Treasurer.
