2016 Irrigated Crop Production Update Conference

The Lethbridge Irrigated Crop Production Update will take place on January 19 – 20, 2016, at the Lethbridge Lodge and Conference Centre.

The conference includes 30 presentations related to irrigated crop production. There will be opportunities to network with irrigated crop producers, crop advisors, irrigation equipment dealers, and others connected to the irrigation industry (private industry, irrigation districts, and government). Continuing Education Credits will be available for pesticide applicators, certified crop advisors, and certified crop consultants.

“This year we have a very full agenda, including presentations on agronomic management, pest management, financial management, irrigated crops, irrigation equipment, and irrigation water management,” says Shelley Woods, soil and water research scientist, Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) Lethbridge.

Speakers will include experts from private industry, AF, and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

“We are very pleased to have, as our keynote speaker, Dr. Steve Evett from the United States Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) in Bushland, Texas,” says Woods. “Dr. Evett will be speaking about his international experience with variable rate irrigation.”

There will also be displays by AF and other organizations.

“As part of the conference registration, we will also be having a special pesticide applicators session with two speakers providing information (and continuing credits) on the hard-to-get categories of human health and safety and regulatory.”

The conference registration fee is $100 (including GST) and includes two lunches, snacks, and entry to all 30 of the speaker presentations. The early registration deadline is January 8, 2016, with the fee after that time being $125 (including GST).

“The last time the conference was held, there were more than 350 registrants, so there is potential for this conference to sell-out,” adds Woods. “I suggest registering early to avoid disappointment.”

To register, phone the Alberta Ag-Info Centre at 1-800-387-6030. They accept Visa, MasterCard, or cheque. Ag-Info Centre hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
