Agreement Reached To Open Two Lanes At Coutts Border Crossing

A lawyer representing truckers blocking access to a southern Alberta border crossing says they have agreed to open some blocked lanes.

Chad Williamson says trucks and other vehicles have begun to clear one northbound and one southbound lane near Coutts following discussions with the R-C-M-P.

Travellers and cross-border truckers had been stranded since Saturday, when the blockade was set up in solidarity with a major protest in Ottawa against COVID-19 vaccine mandates and other restrictions.

Police tried to peacefully break up the demonstration yesterday, but backed off when demonstrators breached a nearby checkpoint.
