Beef & Forage Days Next Week

Experts on beef markets and forage production will share their insight at the 2013 Manitoba Beef and Forage Days next week.

One-day conferences and trade shows will be held in five Manitoba communities, including Vita, Eriksdale, Ste. Rose du Lac, Holland and Teulon.

"It basically brings together MAFRI, the Manitoba Forage Council and Manitoba Beef Producers to bring information to livestock and forage producers in the province, and deliver it in their communities," explains Jo-Lene Gardiner, extension coordinator with Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives.

Speakers will cover topics including market outlooks, forage insurance and animal nutrition. Manitoba Beef Producers and the Manitoba Forage Council will share updates on their activities.

Gardiner notes there will also be a focus on farm safety.

"That's in response to an aging farm population and also somewhat in response to the tragic passing of Major Jay Fox (former Manitoba Beef Producers president who died in a farm accident last winter,)" she explains.

Gascho acknowledged at the outset that vaccination can quickly become a technical and sometimes tedious topic. But he said that real-world execution, not complex immunology, is where most vaccine failures occur.
