Donation will support collaboration between Mayo Clinic and University of Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois (AgPRJune 22, 2016 – BRANDT, a leading agriculture retailer and manufacturer of specialty agriculture products, has pledged a sizable donation to the Mayo Clinic Center for Individualized Medicine. The funds will be used for the long-standing collaboration between Rochester-based Mayo Clinic and the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.

The BRANDT donation will support technology-based healthcare advancements through the Center for Individualized Medicine. Specifically, the money is earmarked to create the BRANDT Scholars Fund and to underwrite the Young Scholars concurrent session at the Center’s annual Individualizing Medicine Conference. The one-time donation is $50,000 with an option to renew.

“We believe in healthy living, advanced food production and giving back to our local community,” said Rick Brandt, President and CEO of BRANDT. “This program fits those concepts perfectly. Our contribution will enable several exceptional young scholars at the University of Illinois to learn and to contribute their talent to the quest for truly personalized medicine.”

The goal of the Center for Individualized Medicine is to provide exactly what a patient needs when it is needed: Personalized care based on that patient’s own genome. The Individualizing Medicine Conference, hosted at Mayo Clinic, is an annual event dedicated to presenting and applying the latest in genomic, molecular and clinical sciences.

“I am incredibly proud to announce this donation and to be a part of this exciting project,” explained Brandt. “Many of the BRANDT team, including me personally, have benefited from the world-class care at Mayo. Through this pledge, we are giving back. We are supporting amazing healthcare right in our own backyard, through an initiative that matches the best minds in medicine with the best minds in computer science.”
