China Restricts Canada Beef

China is the latest country to impose temporary trade restrictions on beef imports from Canada after the most recent case of BSE on an Alberta farm.

Taiwan, Peru, Belarus and South Korea have also announced restrictions, while Indonesia has suspended imports of non-edible bone meal.

The CFIA says the case in Alberta won't affect Canada's official beef trade status.

Meanwhile, the Agency says two cows discovered to have BSE in the last five years were born on that same Alberta farm.

The most recent case was born in 2009, while a cow born in 2004 tested positive for the disease in 2010.
