Chrysler's Ram 1500 Named "Truck Of The Year."

The Chrysler Ram 1500 won the Truck of the Year award at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The awards were chosen by a panel of 49 automotive journalists.

With the American economy rebounding and consumers looking more seriously at purchasing trucks again, Diaz said the timing of the award couldn’t be better for the company. “It means a world of amazing good things for the American car companies.

“What we’re seeing is a resurgence of people buying trucks because of the interior, the luxury and the ride quality. People are considering trucks as their family’s primary mode of transportation.”

Diaz said Chrysler has introduced 12 new forms of technology in the Ram 1500, but he highlighted the vehicle’s best-in-class fuel efficiency (25 miles per gallon), eight-speed transmission, engine stop-start system, air suspension system and interior finish as the key highlights.

The truck comes with a choice of 5.7-litre HEMI V8 or the Pentastar V6 engines.

“Everything we put into this truck was made to surprise and delight traditional truck buyers as well as to make people who aren’t traditional truck buyers want to buy it as well,” Diaz said.

Chrysler also has the advantage of having its new truck out ahead of the impending launches of new product from GM and Ford.

However, even more important than the slew of awards the Ram 1500 is collecting is the news consumers are voting with their wallets.

“We feel confident from early indications from our dealers and customers, that we’ve done well,” Diaz said. “We’re very pleased with the initial sales we’ve seen reported from our dealers.”
