Premier Scott Moe met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Regina Friday.
The two covered a lot of issues relating to agriculture from Saskatchewan’s firm stance on the carbon tax to trade issues and the current grain backlog.
"We did have a discussion on where we are going in the province on emissions, for instance, the equivalency agreements that we need to continue to work with our federal government on are around coal-fire electricity generation as well as methane emissions," he said. "Those equivalency agreements are paramount to us achieving some of the targets in those industries, and we need to see the progression of them quickly.
Moe adds they also discussed agriculture and carbon sinks, specifically around Saskatchewan sharing technology and knowledge in carbon capture and zero till and exporting that to other areas around the world.
Moe says he also expressed gratitude for Minister Garneau’s letter to the railways asking for specific plans on grain movement.
"Ultimately this is a key for us to hear in an exporting province such Saskatchewan that we have the reliable transportation ability to our ports and to our country all around the world that includes rail lines and that includes pipelines that are fully within the federal governments responsibility, and we ask for continued leadership on both of these files."
