Extension Coordinator – Farm Sustainability Extension Working Group (FSEWG)

Staff leadership from Alberta Barley, Alberta Canola Producers Commission, Alberta Pulse Growers, and the Alberta Wheat Commission make up the FSEWG. Working on behalf of our producer membership, we are committed to assessing and meeting areas of need for on-farm sustainability extension and education.
 
Job Description
 
Under the direction of the four crop commissions, we are seeking an Extension Coordinator for a two-year temporary term to develop, coordinate and implement an extension program with the objective of increasing Alberta producers/growers awareness of on-farm sustainability.
 
The Extension Coordinator will work with the FSEWG staff to:
  1. Understand and prioritize areas of knowledge improvement for Alberta growers, with respect to compliance with known sustainability standards derived from the Alberta grower sustainability survey (to be conducted) and best management practices (BMP)
     
  2. Identify current extension activities and programs regarding sustainability already in place in Alberta
     
  3. Collaborate with subject matter experts such from Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF), Applied Research Associations (ARAs), Agriculture Service Boards, municipalities, the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Crops (CRSC), as well as universities and colleges within the province on program development
     
  4. Develop a comprehensive extension program to include a variety of activities, including but not limited to: fact sheets, information packages, newsletters, grower presentations, workshops and various other forms of communications as needed
     
  5. Coordinate and collaborate with commodity partner networks and AF extension experts to implement the activities
     
  6. Provide a plan for ongoing extension activities and report back on the success/challenges of implemented activities
