Fire Destroys Hog Barn In Western Manitoba

Virden and Melita RCMP responded to a pig barn fire northwest of Kola, Manitoba on March 24 just after 10pm.
 
The barn was owned by pork producer HyLife.
 
When officers arrived on scene the barn was fully engulfed in flames and the RM of Wallace Fire Department was working to keep the blaze under control.
 
There were no human injuries. Approximately 1500 sows were lost to the fire.
 
HyLife Vice-President Claude Vielfaure says he's very sad about the loss, adding the cause of the fire is not yet known.
 
The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
 
The fire commissioner's office is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
