Growers speak on first experience with Enlist Weed Control System

Growers who participated in the 2014 Enlist™ corn Field Forward™ program with Dow AgroSciences said they were impressed with the performance of both the Enlist™ hybrids and the weed control delivered by Enlist Duo™ herbicide. Growers also mentioned the growing need for this new technology, especially now with the identification of glyphosate-tolerant waterhemp in Ontario.

“We wanted to try the new technology for weed control which we are very happy with,” says John Baitley, a farmer from Prince Edward County, Ontario.  “It did a bang up job.”

Baitley has a unique challenge in his area. “Here in Prince Edward County, we have a major wine growing region. We have vineyards all around us. Grapes are very susceptible to 2,4-D. In fact, we just can’t use the old formulation of it (2,4-D) around grapes at all. This new one the volatility is a lot less and it pretty much stays where it lands. We’ve kind of proven that here with some soybeans right next door to this corn field. Because of the buffers we had here we had soybeans right alongside of the corn. We had absolutely no damage and we sprayed within three feet.”

“In 2014, multiple Field Forward locations in Eastern Canada saw commercial-sized fields planted with Enlist corn and sprayed with Enlist Duo herbicide. The selected growers worked with our technical representatives to manage the technology according to best management practices and fed the production to their livestock,” says Jeff Loessin, portfolio marketing leader with Dow AgroSciences. “You can watch John Baitley share his experience in the following video.”

The Enlist Weed Control System is a new herbicide-tolerant trait technology for corn and soybeans that builds on the glyphosate system, providing growers new advantages for the management of hard-to-control and resistant weeds. The traits provide tolerance to Enlist Duo herbicide with Colex-D™ Technology, a proprietary blend of glyphosate and new 2,4-D choline.

Enlist Duo herbicide retains the positive attributes of glyphosate and 2,4-D products, and provides exceptional weed control. The herbicide features Colex-D Technology, which delivers key user benefits, including ultra-low volatility, minimized potential for drift, decreased odour and improved handling characteristics. Enlist Duo is a highly effective burndown treatment and is available commercially now to farmers in eastern Canada.
