Hail Claims For Crop Damage Down In Saskatchewan

Hail Claims For Crop Damage Down In Saskatchewan

Hail claims for crop damage in Saskatchewan are down substantially from previous years after few claims were filed across Saskatchewan in August.

The chair of the Canadian Crop Hail Association, Rick Omelchenko, says hail claims are one third of normal this year in Saskatchewan.

He says there were a couple of pea sized hailstorms in eastern Saskatchewan in late August.

“You’re getting anywhere from 5 to 35-percent,” Omelchenko said. “There were some crops that were very ripe and those are 100-percent gone. But there are very few of those.”
