Hay Scam Hits Livestock Producers

Saskatchewan RCMP and Livestock Services Saskatchewan are investigating a series of complaints after several livestock producers become victims of fraud while attempting to purchase hay.

Ads were posted on social media and other buy/sell platforms by individuals who scammed producers out of their money by requesting payment prior to the buyer seeing the hay or taking delivery.

Several producers were caught in the scam and had sent money to the seller only to find out that they did not have the hay.

With the dry conditions and a lack of hay this year, many livestock producers are trying to source hay.

RCMP are advising producers not to send any money until the hay is confirmed and delivery has been established.

If you have any information on these scams, have been a victim or know someone who has been one, you are asked to call your local RCMP.

Livestock producers are also being encouraged to move hay bales back to the yard.

Ponteix RCMP are investigating the theft of 12 Hay Bales with a 66 inch diameter from an area South of Hazenmore, SK.

The bales are valued at about $2,400 and went missing sometime between July 14 - 30.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ponteix RCMP 306-625-6400, 310 RCMP, or go to www.saskcrimewatch.ca.
