KAP Comments On AgriStability Changes

During a meeting in Ottawa this week, the country's agriculture ministers asked officials to change the treatment of private insurance in relation to AgriStability for the 2020 program year.

Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) President Bill Campbell commented on the development.

"We do have the ability to have hail insurance on our crops, but if they're looking at production insurance and be it the GARS (Global Ag Risk Solutions) model, and is that what they are suggesting? I know that there is impact with regards to how that insurance compensation is viewed by AgriStability, so there may be some benefits to that part but the concern would be with regards to how this impacts producers and is the federal government looking at offloading some of its responsibilites with regards to the CAP (Canadian Agricultural Partnership) funding and Business Risk Management?"
