Managing Weeds Post Harvest

Flixweed, kochia, cleavers, quackgrass and Canada thistle are just a few of the weeds that farmers will want to try and get control of this fall.

Shannon Friesen is Saskatchewan’s cropping management specialist.

"You want to make sure that the weeds are still actively growing," she said, referring to spraying. "You'd like to make sure that things are growing properly, they're green. Even though we had a frost last week you still want to make sure that things are still looking good."

She suggests stepping on the weed and if they crunch or go black then it’s too late to spray, meaning that a glyphosate application may be wasted.
