Manitoba Cheese Maker Worried About Trans-Pacific Partnership Deal

Manitoba's Bothwell Cheese isn't crying over spilled milk — yet.

But it is keeping a close eye on how Canada's newly signed trade deal, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, might affect its business.

The deal will allow other countries to import a limited supply of foreign milk to Canada.

Mike Raftif, the company's director of sales and marketing, said he's curious about how things might change when new milk products start showing up.

"We use 100 per cent Canadian milk, fresh local milk," he said. "I'm more concerned about modified milk ingredients as well, which we don't use any imported modified ingredients, which a lot of manufacturers are using. So that's the real impact that we want to see."

Raftif said Canadian consumers like the fact his company uses local milk and he doesn't see that changing.
