Manitoba Liberals Promise To Address Tax Issues For Farmland

The Manitoba Liberal party plans to do something about the farmland school tax — a longstanding issue in the province.

"We're committed to removing the cap of $5,000, so the 80 per cent rebate, we're talking about the cap being removed," says Liberal leader Rana Bokhari during her recent tour of rural constituencies.

She says her party also wants to address issues with red tape for farmers who want to direct market their products in Manitoba. She wants to remove barriers for small-scale producers to be able to sell products directly from farm to table.

"We like to buy local, so we're going to do everything we can to make sure that is possible," she says. "Supporting local communities has to be a key economic component of rural Manitobans."
