Oklahoma Beef Council Board of Directors Approves $1.27M Spending Budget for Fiscal Year 2018

The Oklahoma Beef Council will invest about $1.27 million in programs of beef promotion, research, consumer information, industry information, international marketing and producer communications during fiscal 2018.
 
In action taken at the Oklahoma Beef Council’s annual board meeting on October 19, 2017, the board of directors considered investment opportunities in Oklahoma, domestically through the Federation of State Beef Councils and internationally through the US Meat Export Federation. The Oklahoma Beef Council board of directors includes members representing the following organizations American Farmers and Ranchers, Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, Oklahoma CattleWomen, Oklahoma Farm Bureau, Oklahoma DFA and Oklahoma Livestock Marketing Association. 
 
“From programs working to educate Oklahoma consumers about beef and beef production to our first efforts in the China market, we feel we are delivering a plan of work for the Oklahoma beef checkoff that achieves our goal of serving Oklahoma’s beef producers by working to strengthen beef demand.” said Angie Meyer, Chairman for the Oklahoma Beef Council.
 
The Oklahoma Beef Council board of directors approved the following for program expenses:
 
$369,000 for Federation of State Beef Councils including support of national programs in promotion, consumer information, industry information and research. In addition, this includes support of the 5-State Digital Marketing Campaign working to amplify national digital marketing efforts in high-population states. 
 
$265,000 for International Marketing including the funding of promotion and market development efforts in Japan, South Korea and China. 
 
$186,000 for Oklahoma promotion programs including the development of new social media properties, revamped website, digital marketing efforts and in-state billboard advertising. 
 
$135,000 for Oklahoma information programs including beef nutrition education for physicians and other health professional groups, outreach to consumers through events, beef cookery education in the classroom and funding for ag literacy programs in Oklahoma. 
 
$161,000 for Oklahoma Industry information programs including Beef Quality Assurance efforts, ranch tours for health professional influencers, the FFA/Masters of Beef Advocacy program and the Oklahoma Beef Quality Summit.
 
$29,100 for support of OSU meat science programs including funding of a graduate assistantship focused on beef science research and the OSU meat’s judging team.
