Pioneer® Brand Plenish® High Oleic Soybean Varieties Can Boost Double Crop Profits

Processor-paid incentives and strong yield performance extend profit potential

Delmarva-area farmers who plant double-crop soybeans have a unique opportunity to boost income with a value-added soybean thanks to a collaboration between DuPont Pioneer and Perdue AgriBusiness. By planting Pioneer® brand Plenish® high oleic soybean varieties in 2016 for their double-crop acres, growers earn a processor-paid premium on top of the commodity value of their soybeans, making them a smart choice in a challenging commodities market.

Regional processor, Perdue AgriBusiness, pays soybean growers a $0.50 to $0.60 per bushel premium for Plenish® high oleic soybeans because they produce an oil profile with improved nutrition and function versus commodity soybean oil. Demand for these high-performing, high-value soybeans has nearly doubled every year since their introduction to the market in 2012.

“Farmer interest in growing Plenish® high oleic soybeans continues to grow exponentially, year over year,” said John Ade, senior vice president, Perdue AgriBusiness. “With the challenge of lower soybean prices generally, the performance and incentive combination make this an attractive combination for farmers looking to maximize the profitability on their double-crop acres.”

Pioneer still has a good selection of high-yielding Plenish® high oleic soybean varieties for double-crop production.

“Plenish® high oleic soybean varieties are selected for the traits that fit our area and are thoroughly tested here in the Mid-Atlantic years before we release them to assure they are adapted to our region,” said Bill McCollum, DuPont Pioneer field agronomist in the Delmarva region. “In three years of testing maturities versus planting dates on the Delmarva, we’ve found that in double cropping plantings, our selected Plenish® high oleic soybeans perform just like other soybeans of the same maturities.”
