Soybean Harvest Impressive So Far

Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers (MPSG) is pegging soybean harvest between 70 and 75 per cent complete across the province.

Production Specialist Kristen Podolsky says the norm for this time of year is between 50 and 60 per cent.

She says that quality and yields have been pretty good so far.

"The crop that came off before last week's rain was very, very good," explained Podolsky. "We're seeing some incredible yields. 2016 could potentially set a new record for yields but I think it's a bit too early to say just knowing that about a third of the crop is still in the ground. The crop that was harvested before the rain was very good, yield, very good quality. We had few harvest losses."

However, it may be a different story for the soybeans that remain in the field.
