Sunflower Harvest Nearing Completion

This year's sunflower harvest is coming to a close.

Ben Friesen, senior marketing manager with Scoular, estimates progress at between 80 and 85 per cent complete.

He notes yields have been looking good so far this year.

"We think we're coming in with a very good average crop at this time. Quite a few of the guys definitely are above average. I wouldn't say it's big out-of-this-world bumper crops but definitely above average, which is a good solid crop."

Friesen says the drop in temperatures has been good for helping to dry down the crop. He notes most of the sunflower crop is coming off the field dry, adding if producers have aeration they'll be able to dry it down enough so that it will store good over the winter.
