The Government of Canada to conserve working agricultural lands in Manitoba

Winnipeg, Manitoba - Nature is an important part of our Canadian identity. That’s why the Government of Canada is doubling the amount of protected nature in Canada’s lands and oceans.

The Member of Parliament for Winnipeg Centre, Robert-Falcon Ouellette, announced that the Government of Canada is working with the Manitoba Habitat Heritage Corporation to protect Manitoba’s priority habitats. This investment of $306,000 will help conserve 971 hectares of natural habitats on working agricultural lands. By protecting wetlands at high risk of loss, this will provide biodiversity, flood control, water quality, and climate change adaptation benefits for agricultural lands in Manitoba. These new protected areas will also include grasslands and other habitats that are important for up to 16 species at risk, including the Loggerhead Shrike, the Sprague’s Pipit, the Ferruginous Hawk, and the Chestnut-collared Longspur.

By working together, we can build strong and healthy communities and protect our nature and the wildlife that depends on it.

Video: Spring Planting Prep Just Got Serious… We NEED This!

Getting closer to planting season means one thing… it’s time to get EVERYTHING ready.

Today didn’t go exactly as planned—we thought we’d be hauling potatoes again, but instead we spent the day digging equipment out of the cellar, hooking up the grain drill, and getting tractors ready to roll. With wheat planting just around the corner, every piece of equipment matters.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a normal day without a few problems… dead batteries, hydraulic issues, and a truck tire that absolutely refused to cooperate. We tried everything—jump packs, bead bazooka, ratchet straps… and eventually had to bring out the “big guns” just to get things moving again.

But that’s farm life—adapt, fix, and keep moving forward.

We’re getting close to go-time. Wheat seed is coming soon, and planting season is right around the corner
