Some crops in Saskatchewan are in dire need of rain as parts of the southeast have not had any moisture since April first.
Weyburn regional crop specialist Sherri Roberts says many crops need rain within a week or so to avoid yield loss adding pastures are also in poor shape.
“We need some rain … and badly,” said Roberts. “There are some fields of fall rye that are starting to flower and if we don’t get some rain this week of next week, they’re just not going to fill.”
Roberts says some crops could be a write-off unless it rains within the next couple weeks.
She says many crops like wheat and fall rye need rain within a week or so to avoid losing yield potential.
“They need some rain – and it’s critical in order to get those heads to fill out,” said Roberts. “There’s going to be some areas of the southeast that we’re going to have some real issues.”
