Winter Wheat Forum set for Feb. 17

URBANA, IL - The Illinois Wheat Association’s annual Winter Wheat Forum will be held Feb. 17 at Krieger’s Holiday Inn Convention Center in Mt. Vernon, Ill. The forum, which aims to help Illinois wheat producers increase productivity and profitability, will again feature a wide variety of attractions for producers and processors.        

Attendees at this year’s forum can expect to participate in sessions covering several topics, including scab and vomitoxin management, fungicide application, and an Illinois legislative update, along with sessions on weather and markets.  In addition to browsing a wide variety of exhibits, participants also will have the opportunity to attend the Illinois Wheat Association annual meeting, held at the conclusion of the forum.

Topics and speakers will include:

Fundamentals supporting a new era of grain prices - John Newton, clinical associate professor of agricultural commodity markets, University of Illinois
Weather 2015 – Will El Nino change everything? - Larry Acker, 3F Forecasts, Polo, IL
Illinois legislative and political landscape - Kevin Semlow, director of state legislation, Illinois Farm Bureau
90 percent of scab control is half fungicides: What we've learned from 19 years of fungicide trials - Carl Bradley, associate professor of plant pathology, University of Illinois
Hitting the target! - Dave Hooker, assistant professor, Department of Plant Agriculture, University of Guelph, Ridgetown, Ontario, Canada        
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with educational sessions beginning at 9 a.m. The forum will conclude at 3 p.m. and will include lunch for registered attendees. Illinois Wheat Association members may register for the conference on site for $15 per person; the general public may attend for $30 per person.
