Young Farmers Get Feet Wet In Ag Politics

About 100 young farmers joined Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) last Thursday in downtown Winnipeg during the farm lobby group's annual meeting.

The Manitoba Young Farmer Conference (MYFC) was taking place at the same hotel.

A number of young farmers took to the floor to present a resolution in regards to the carbon tax.

MYFC Co-Chair Simon Ellis feels its important for young farmers to get involved in ag politics.

"They're the future of agriculture and for a young farmer it's important for them to be involved in politics because they're the ones that are going to shape the future," he said.

KAP President Dan Mazier was also pleased to have the younger generation in attendance.

"It's always good. You stand up at the podium and see those young faces, it's refreshing to see...they're engaged," he commented.

Some of the topics discussed during the two-day young farmer conference included drones and social media.
