Young Farmers Invited To June 16 Livestock Information Dinner

QUINCY, ILL.  – The Adams County Farm Bureau and Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) are hosting a dinner for young people interested in livestock production. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk with subject matter experts and livestock farmers at 6 p.m., Monday, June 16, at Sprout's Inn in Quincy, Ill.

"Many young people would like to begin farming, but today's land prices make that difficult for young farmers," says Lindsey Henson, ISA animal agriculture lead.  "Livestock, on the other hand, is a perfect opportunity for young farmers as it adds income and labor, and diversifies a current crop operation.  It's also a great way for any young person to begin farming."

Those who are interested in learning more about the opportunities of livestock, or who want information about getting started with livestock production, are invited to attend.  Program speakers include Nic Anderson, Illinois Livestock Development Group; Lindsey Henson, ISA animal agriculture lead; Tim Maiers, Illinois Pork Producers Association director of public relations; and Matt Starr, crop and livestock farmer and district nine young leader representative.

ISA will sponsor dinner at Sprout's Inn, located at 2814 N. 12th Street in Quincy.  For questions or more information, contact Shawn Valter, Adams County Farm Bureau manager, at 217-222-7305 or acfb@adams.net.

ISA represents more than 45,000 soybean farmers in Illinois through the state soybean checkoff and membership efforts.  The checkoff funds market development, soybean production and profitability research, promotion, issues management and analysis, communications and education.  Membership and advocacy efforts support Illinois soybean farmers' interests in local areas, Springfield and Washington, D.C.  ISA programs are designed to ensure Illinois soy is the highest quality, most dependable, sustainable and competitive in the global marketplace.
