USDA : Weekly Export Sales Highlights

Wheat:  Net sales of 358,900 metric tons were down 25 percent from the previous week and 26 percent from prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Indonesia (58,000 MT, switched from unknown destinations), Thailand (52,000 MT), Japan (49,700 MT), Peru (28,000 MT), unknown destinations (23,500 MT), Italy (22,500 MT, including 22,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), and the Netherlands (21,500 MT, switched from Switzerland).  Decreases were reported for Switzerland (21,500 MT), Guatemala (8,000 MT), the Philippines (2,400 MT), and Taiwan (1,100 MT).  Net sales of 35,000 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were for Peru (25,000 MT) and Colombia (10,000 MT).  Exports of 375,000 MT were down 1 percent from the previous week and the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were the Philippines (99,100 MT), Taiwan (50,300 MT), Nigeria (44,100 MT), Mexico (37,800 MT), Brazil (36,600 MT), and Japan (30,900 MT).  

Corn:  Net sales of 577,000 MT were up 7 percent from the previous week and 6 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Japan (319,400 MT, including 57,500 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 10,200 MT), Egypt (184,800 MT, including 60,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Venezuela (75,000 MT), South Korea (61,300 MT, including 55,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Mexico (47,400 MT), the Dominican Republic (37,000 MT), and Costa Rica (25,500 MT, including 25,700 MT switched from Guatemala and decreases of 500 MT), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (192,000 MT) and Guatemala (50,700 MT).  Optional origin sales of 38,900 MT for Colombia were cancelled.  Net sales of 858,500 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were primarily for unknown destinations (237,500 MT), South Korea (171,000 MT), Egypt (120,000 MT), and Japan (106,200 MT).  Optional origin sales of 30,400 MT were for delivery in 2009/2010 for Colombia.  Exports of 1,123,600 MT were up 17 percent from the previous week, but down 1 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were South Korea (282,000 MT), Mexico (202,900 MT), Japan (142,800 MT), Taiwan (93,800 MT), Egypt (88,600 MT), Syria (71,100 MT), and Guatemala (33,400 MT).  

Barley:  There were no sales reported during the week.  Exports of 900 MT were to Canada (700 MT) and Mexico (200 MT).

Sorghum:  Net sales of 11,900 MT were for Mexico.  Net sales of 131,300 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were for unknown destinations (62,900 MT), Mexico (50,100 MT), and Japan (18,300 MT).  Exports of 15,900 MT were for Mexico.  

Rice:  Net sales of 143,400 MT were reported for Mexico (42,900 MT), Haiti (35,000 MT), Jordan (12,400 MT), and Guatemala (9,100 MT).  Exports of 47,700 MT were primarily to Mexico (31,800 MT), Nicaragua (4,300 MT), Canada (3,500 MT), Jordan (2,000 MT), and Saudi Arabia (1,200 MT).

Soybeans:  Net sales of 274,900 MT were up 6 percent from the previous week, but down 17 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were primarily for China (222,000 MT), the Dominican Republic (18,000 MT), Taiwan (11,000 MT), Indonesia (6,900 MT), and Japan (5,900 MT).  Decreases were reported for Guatemala (2,100 MT) and Syria (1,300 MT).  Net sales of 583,100 MT for 2009/10 delivery were for China (393,000 MT), unknown destinations (108,000 MT), Taiwan (69,000 MT), and Mexico (13,100 MT).  Exports of 155,600 MT were down 42 percent from the previous week and 44 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (67,800 MT), Japan (46,500 MT), Syria (16,700 MT), and Cuba (8,000 MT). 

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 110,800 MT were up noticeably from the previous week and 43 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (27,700 MT), Venezuela (18,000 MT), Colombia (16,400 MT), unknown destinations (16,000 MT), and the Dominican Republic (13,000 MT).  Decreases were reported for Guatemala (7,600 MT).  Net sales of 45,500 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were mainly for Guatemala (28,000 MT) and unknown destinations (16,000 MT).  Exports of 110,300 MT were up 40 percent from the previous week and 22 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were the Philippines (31,400 MT), Canada (25,300 MT), Colombia (16,900 MT), Mexico (12,100 MT), Morocco (7,400 MT), Guatemala (6,000 MT), and Honduras (5,000 MT). 

Soybean Oil:  Net sales reductions of 12,300 MT resulted as increases for Canada (400 MT), Cuba (200 MT), and Colombia (100 MT) were more than offset by decreases for South Korea (9,000 MT) and Mexico (3,500 MT).   Net sales of 5,300 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were for Mexico.  Exports of 28,600 MT were up 70 percent from the previous week and 48 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Morocco (16,000 MT), Algeria (7,000 MT), and Hong Kong (3,000 MT).  

Cotton:  Net Upland sales of 32,300 running bales resulted as increases for China (13,500 RB), Taiwan (5,100 RB, including 1,000 RB switched from Japan), South Korea (4,900 RB), and Vietnam (4,000 RB), were partially offset by decreases for Indonesia (11,300 RB).  Exports of 127,600 RB were primarily to China (30,100 RB), Mexico (25,100 RB), Turkey (16,000 RB), Vietnam (12,400 RB), Thailand (6,700 RB), and Indonesia (5,500 RB).  Net American Pima sales of 5,800 RB were primarily for Pakistan (3,000 RB) and China (2,200 RB).  Exports of 20,600 RB were mainly to China (13,200 RB), India (3,300 RB), Pakistan (1,400 RB), and Germany (900 RB).

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 438,200 pieces, all whole cattle hides were up 64 percent from the previous week and 17 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary buyers were China (173,300 pieces), South Korea (134,600 pieces), Vietnam (41,600 pieces), Taiwan (27,700 pieces), and Mexico (16,000 pieces).  Exports of 535,400 pieces were up 27 percent from the previous week, but down 11 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 528,600 pieces were primarily to China (302,300 pieces), South Korea (113,800 pieces), Mexico (24,100 pieces), Thailand (21,100 pieces), Hong Kong (16,700 pieces), and Vietnam (15,800 pieces).

Net sales of 134,500 wet blues were down 7 percent from the previous week, but up 4 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (34,500 unsplit and 18,000 grain splits), Mexico (38,900 grain splits and 300 unsplit), the Dominican Republic (15,000 unsplit), and Japan (8,300 unsplit). Exports of 93,600 hides were down 36 percent from the previous week and 23 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (33,200 unsplit and 1,800 grain splits), Mexico (30,600 grain unsplits and 3,300 unsplit), Taiwan (11,000 unsplit), Italy (2,000 grain splits and 2,000 unsplit), and Vietnam (4,000 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 353,400 pounds resulted as increases for Hong Kong (225,000 pounds) and South Korea (135,000 pounds) were partially offset by decreases for China (6,600 pounds).  Exports of 589,400 pounds were up noticeably from the previous week and 77 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were Hong Kong (370,000 pounds), China (169,400 pounds), and Hong Kong (50,000 pounds).

Beef:  Net sales of 11,400 MT were primarily for Vietnam (2,500 MT), Japan (2,200 MT), Canada (2,200 MT), Hong Kong (1,600 MT), and Mexico (1,300 MT).  Exports of 9,900 MT were mainly to Mexico (3,100 MT), Japan (1,600 MT), Canada (1,500 MT), and Vietnam (1,200 MT).
