USDA : Weekly Export Sales Highlights

This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period February 12-18, 2010.

Wheat:  Net sales of 375,700 metric tons for delivery in 2009/10 were down 8 percent from the previous week and 26 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Nigeria (206,300 MT, including 9,300 MT switched from unknown destinations), Morocco (44,600 MT), Japan (44,000 MT), Guatemala (30,500 MT, including 27,500 MT switched from unknown destinations), the Philippines (26,600 MT), El Salvador (16,700 MT, switched from unknown destinations), and Venezuela (13,800 MT). Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (18,400 MT) and Mexico (5,400 MT).  Net sales of 33,300 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for Mexico (29,300 MT) and Japan (4,000 MT).  Exports of 459,700 MT were up 26 percent from the previous week and 9 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Nigeria (112,500 MT), the Philippines (76,600 MT), Japan (67,000 MT), Mexico (53,600 MT), Iraq (51,200 MT), and Guatemala (27,500 MT). 

Corn:  Net sales of 401,300 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were down 59 percent from the previous week and 55 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for South Korea (230,300 MT, including 172,600 MT switched from unknown destinations), Japan (213,400 MT, including 83,300 MT switched from unknown destinations), Egypt (63,300 MT, including 60,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Peru (60,000 MT), Syria (48,000 MT), Mexico (28,100 MT), and the Dominican Republic (27,500 MT).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (299,900 MT).  Net sales of 50,000 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for unknown destinations.  Exports of 1,240,600 MT--a marketing-year high--were up 90 percent from the previous week and 71 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (420,400 MT), South Korea (288,000 MT), Mexico (248,900 MT), Taiwan (129,100 MT), Egypt (63,300 MT), Costa Rica (25,200 MT), and Canada (20,600 MT). Note: Accumulated exports were adjusted down for Cuba (24,500MT).

 Barley: Net sales of 15,500 MT were for Canada.  Exports of 200 MT were to Canada.

Sorghum:  Net sales of 106,400 MT were primarily for Mexico (91,500 MT), unknown destinations (10,000 MT), and Morocco (7,000 MT).  Decreases were reported for Japan (1,200 MT).  Net sales of 30,000 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for Mexico.  Exports of 170,800 MT--a marketing-year high--were up 29 percent from the previous week and noticeably from the prior 4-week average. The destinations were to Mexico (91,200 MT) and Japan (79,600 MT).

Rice:  Net sales of 74,300 MT were down 6 percent from the previous week and 18 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Turkey (33,000 MT), Mexico (17,400 MT), Japan (5,700 MT), Guatemala (4,500 MT), and Panama (4,300 MT).  Exports of 112,600 MT were down 25 percent from the previous week, but up 59 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Panama (36,700 MT), Mexico (16,000 MT), Japan (13,300 MT), Nicaragua (12,200 MT), Honduras (9,100 MT), and El Salvador (8,000 MT).

Soybeans:  Net sales of 239,100 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were up 17 percent from the previous week, but down 39 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were primarily for China (177,700 MT, including 110,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Germany (71,000 MT, including 70,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Egypt (60,000 MT), Mexico (58,300 MT), Turkey (50,100 MT, including 45,500 MT switched from Cuba), Japan (46,700 MT, including 28,500 MT switched from unknown destinations), and Spain (43,900 MT, including 35,000 MT switched from unknown destinations).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (249,000 MT) and Cuba (45,500 MT).  Net sales of 2,900 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for Japan.  Exports of 1,122,000 MT were unchanged from the previous week, but down 10 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (666,300 MT), Japan (72,000 MT), Germany (71,000 MT), Iran (66,100 MT), Mexico (59,700 MT), and Turkey (50,500 MT).

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 81,900 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were down 66 percent from the previous week and 55 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Morocco (63,000 MT, including 30,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), South Korea (28,400 MT, including 30,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 1,600 MT), Romania (27,500 MT, including 25,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Germany (26,300 MT, including 26,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), and Syria (23,100 MT, switched from unknown destinations), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (164,300 MT).  There were no sales reported for delivery in 2010/11.  Exports of 299,300 MT were up 4 percent from the previous week and the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Vietnam (35,100 MT), Morocco (33,000 MT), South Korea (28,400 MT), Romania (27,500 MT), Germany (26,300 MT), and Australia (24,900 MT). 

Soybean Oil:  Net sales of 40,200 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were down 14 percent from the previous week and 18 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for the Dominican Republic (9,700 MT), Mexico (8,800 MT), India (5,700 MT), Algeria (5,000 MT), and Morocco (5,000 MT).  There were no sales reported for delivery in 2010/11.  Exports of 14,500 MT were up noticeably from the previous week, but down 67 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were Cuba (7,600 MT), Mexico (3,100 MT), and Jamaica (3,000 MT). 

Cotton:  Net Upland sales of 113,300 running bales for delivery in 2009/10 were down 69 percent from the previous week and 75 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Turkey (29,300 RB), South Korea (17,700 RB), Vietnam (15,000 RB), and Mexico (14,000 RB).  Decreases were reported for El Salvador (1,700 RB), unknown destinations (900 RB), and Guatemala (800 RB).  Net sales of 48,900 RB for delivery in 2010/11 were mainly for Mexico (29,300 RB), Colombia (12,800 RB), and Thailand (5,300 RB).  Exports of 231,000 RB--a marketing-year high--were up 12 percent from the previous week and 22 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (89,500 RB), Turkey (40,100 RB), Mexico (24,000 RB), Indonesia (9,300 RB), and Taiwan (7,800 RB).  Net American Pima sales of 9,100 RB were down 29 percent from the previous week and 4 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were primarily for China (2,800 RB), Germany (2,600 RB), and India (1,500 RB).  There were no sales reported for delivery in 2010/11.  Exports of 12,300 RB were up 4 percent from the previous week, but down 29 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (5,200 RB), Taiwan (2,000 RB), Indonesia (1,600 RB), and Pakistan (1,600 RB).

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 209,600 pieces were reported for delivery in 2010, down 57 percent from the previous week and 55 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 194,800 pieces were primarily for South Korea (125,100 pieces), Taiwan (25,200 pieces), China (24,200 pieces), Mexico (15,100 pieces), and Japan (3,500 pieces).  Exports of 366,600 pieces were down 32 percent from the previous week and 16 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 359,800 pieces were primarily to China (192,700 pieces), South Korea (89,800 pieces), Taiwan (22,700 pieces), Mexico (18,500 pieces), Hong Kong (15,900 pieces), and Japan (4,300 pieces).

Net sales of 236,100 wet blues for delivery in 2010 were up noticeably from the previous week and 77 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary buyers were China (139,300 unsplit), Italy (60,000 unsplit), and Mexico (13,100 grain splits and 3,600 unsplit).  Exports of 150,800 hides were primarily for China (54,700 unsplit and 3,000 grain splits), Italy (32,300 unsplit), Vietnam (17,700 unsplit), Mexico (12,700 grain splits and 4,800 unsplit), and Taiwan (10,000 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 676,400 pounds were primarily for China (587,300 pounds), Taiwan (44,300 pounds), and Hong Kong (18,600 pounds).  Exports of 352,100 pounds were for Hong Kong (214,400 pounds), Taiwan (93,700 pounds), and South Korea (44,000 pounds).

Beef: Net sales of 8,000 MT were down 18 percent from the previous week and 30 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (4,000 MT), Canada (1,600 MT), Japan (500 MT), and South Korea (400 MT).  Exports of 10,100 MT were primarily for Mexico (3,100 MT), Canada (1,400 MT), Vietnam (1,400 MT), South Korea (1,400 MT), and Japan (1,100 MT).
