Horses Lost in Georgia Barn Blaze

Nov 18, 2014
Georgia authorities are investigating the cause of a barn fire that claimed the lives of a group of horses in Clayton County.

Captain Eric L. Jackson, public information officer for the DeKalb County Fire Department, said fire personnel responded to a blaze at the DeKalb and Clayton county lines in the early morning hours of Nov. 17.

“We got the call from a resident in (DeKalb) county,” Jackson said. “While we were on our way to the fire, we could see the smoke and we were not going to turn back.”

Jackson said by the time fire crews arrived, the entire barn was engulfed in flames.

“We fought the fire from the exterior,” Jackson said.

Jackson said four horses and a cow were killed in the fire. The investigation into the cause of the fire remains pending, he said.
