Dry Conditions allow for good Seeding Progress

Many areas of Manitoba received precipitation over the weekend which was of benefit to crops, hay, and pastures, however, the crop report says additional precipitation would still be welcomed to assist with crop germination, emergence, and growth. Where soil moisture is adequate, crops are emerging rapidly.

The report says little to no rainfall was reported in the southwest region over the past week, and cereal and canola crops could use some precipitation to help with germination.

Meanwhile, seeding is reported to be almost complete in the central region, although continued dry weather and high winds late last week caused some soil blowing to occur.

In the east, planting of spring cereals is complete with 90 per cent of acres in the seedling stage or emerging, while 95 per cent of canola acres are seeded with approximately 60 per cent of the crop in the seedling stage or emerging.

Video: Spring weed control in winter wheat with Broadway® Star (pyroxsulam + florasulam)

#CortevaTalks brings you a short update with Cereal Herbicides Category Manager, Alister McRobbie, on how to get the most out of Broadway® Star.

Significant populations of grassweeds, including ryegrass and brome, can threaten winter wheat yields. Spring applications of a contact graminicide, such as Broadway Star from Corteva Agriscience, can clear problem weeds, allowing crops to grow away in the spring.

Broadway Star (pyroxsulam + florasulam) controls ryegrass, sterile brome, wild oats and a range of broad-leaved weeds such as cleavers. It can be applied to winter wheat up until GS32, but the earlier the application is made, the smaller the weed, and the greater the benefit to the crop. Weeds should be actively growing. A good rule of thumb is that if your grass needs cutting, conditions are right to apply Broadway Star.
