Missouri Students Participate in Youth Swine Judging Contest

Columbia, Mo.,— On Friday, August 8, almost 70 FFA and 4-H members participated in the 2014 Youth Swine Judging Contest at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia. Winners were announced in both the Junior and Senior Division on an individual basis and as a team. The contest, sponsored by the Missouri Pork Association, consisted of four swine judging classes and two sets of ten questions.

In the Junior Division, top team honors went to the Judging Trio from the Houstonia area. Team members included Hannah Viets, Cole Murphy, Brayde Adam and Trey Schleicher. The second place Linn County Team included Audrey Martin, Lauren Parks and Clayton Moore. In third place was the Audrain County Team of Mark Hollenberg, Logan Wilson, Paige Dameron and Tayler Cope. The top individual in the Junior Division went to Audrey Martin from Bucklin.

In the Senior Division, top team honors went to the Bad Hams Team—members included Tony Morgan, Zachary Ayers and Joel Martin. Joel, who is from Bucklin, was also the top individual in the Senior Division. The second place Nevada FFA Team included Payton Dahmer, Kaylee Farmer, Skyler Scotten and Cara Comstock. In third place was the North Callaway Team of Emily Montgomery, Shambree Hagan, Bailey Kemp and Amy McAlexander.

The top three teams and the highest individual in each division receive a cash award.

The Missouri Pork Association represents the state’s pork producers in the areas of promotion, research, education and legislation.
