Pulse growers in Saskatchewan have voted and the results are in. Brad Blackwell of Dinsmore, Jackie Carleton of Saskatoon, and Lee Moats of Riceton have all been elected for three-year terms to the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) Board of Directors.
“We are pleased to be welcoming new board members Brad Blackwell and Jackie Carleton in January, along with returning board member Lee Moats,” says SPG Board Chair Tim Wiens. “At the board table we look forward to having a mix of new and experienced board members to bring forward fresh perspective and ideas to further develop the Saskatchewan pulse industry.”
Brad Blackwell operates a family farm at Dinsmore where they grow 8,000 acres of wheat, malt barley, flax, and red lentils. Pulses account for approximately 40% of their acres.
Jackie Carleton manages and operates a 4,000-acre farm with her husband in Bracken. Peas and lentils account for one-third of their crop rotation.
Lee Moats operates a farm near Riceton with his wife and son. Lentils account for 33 per cent of their cropping system, along with winter cereals and canola. Lee has served on SPG Board since 2011.
There were 2,309 votes cast by 848 voters in this year’s election. Nearly all votes were received through the online voting platform SPG has offered in recent years.
