Beef Products Recalled for Potential E.coli Contamination

By , Farms.com

The beef recall from an Edmonton, Alberta based company – XL Foods Inc. has been expanded for the sixth time as of late Sunday Sept 23th.  The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced some new products that might be tainted by a potential E.coli contamination.

The expanded recall stretches nationwide in Canada, now impacting Maritime Provinces. The expanded recall now lists a variety of beef products including, beef patties, meat loaf and ground beef that was distributed to Sobeys and Foodland stories in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island.

The voluntary recall was originally issued on Sept.16th by the company in question – XL Foods Inc.  The company has posted information on its website listing the products that are affected by the recall and encourage customers to return the products in one of two ways. Either, return the beef products to the retailers where they purchased the meat from or they can call XL Foods directly using their hotline 1-866-467-1514.

The CFIA says that they are currently conducting a food safety investigation and are working with the company to identify and verify all of the affected products. There is also a beef recall issued in the United States as some of XL Food products have been distributed in California, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.

The CFIA warns consumers not to consume beef that is listed under the recall as foods that may be contaminated with E.coli can lead to life-threatening illnesses. For those individuals who are unsure if they have ground beef affected by the recall are encouraged to check with the products that they purchased the beef at or dispose of the meat.

Video: Spring weed control in winter wheat with Broadway® Star (pyroxsulam + florasulam)

#CortevaTalks brings you a short update with Cereal Herbicides Category Manager, Alister McRobbie, on how to get the most out of Broadway® Star.

Significant populations of grassweeds, including ryegrass and brome, can threaten winter wheat yields. Spring applications of a contact graminicide, such as Broadway Star from Corteva Agriscience, can clear problem weeds, allowing crops to grow away in the spring.

Broadway Star (pyroxsulam + florasulam) controls ryegrass, sterile brome, wild oats and a range of broad-leaved weeds such as cleavers. It can be applied to winter wheat up until GS32, but the earlier the application is made, the smaller the weed, and the greater the benefit to the crop. Weeds should be actively growing. A good rule of thumb is that if your grass needs cutting, conditions are right to apply Broadway Star.
