Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers Title up for Grabs

The 2013 Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers (OYF) will be named Friday night at a gala banquet in Regina.

Seven regional nominees were judged this week, Nov. 12 to 17, on numerous criteria including - farm business plans, production practices, environmental stewardship practices and community involvement. The theme of this year’s forum is "Who is the Voice of Agriculture Today?"

The OYF national program was launched in 1980, and is held annually in conjunction with the Canadian Western Agribition. The program is sponsored by Agriculture and AgriFood Canada, Bayer CropScience, CIBC and John Deere Limited.

Outstanding Young Farmers (OYF) 2013 Nominees:

• British Columbia - Troy and Sara Harker
• Alberta - Michael Kalisvaart and Karen Jansen
• Saskatchewan - Chad and Darlene Krikau
• Manitoba - Tyler and Dorelle Fulton
• Ontario - Dana and Adam Thatcher
• Quebec - Luc Gervais and Kim Brunelle
• Atlantic Canada - James and Amanda Kinsman, Nova Scotia

A 90-day tariff pause with China, cutting rates from 145% to 30%, has renewed investor confidence in Trump’s trade agenda. Funds are now short corn and adding to long soybean positions after a bullish USDA report.
