Because it's better for the environment, more economically viable and can last longer than traditional fluids, soy-based hydraulic fluids have become a mainstay in hydraulic machinery. Hydraulic fluids made from soybeans are also safer than traditional oils. Soy-based products have a fire point of around 610°F compared to 392°F for traditional oils. Soy-based hydraulic have become so popular that even the elevator inside the Statue of Liberty runs on it.
