In Celtic mythology, Moccus was the pig god of the Lingones tribe. He was the protector of boar hunters and warriors. Tribe members viewed boar meat as sacred and only ate it during ritual feasts.

Farmers also buried boar flesh in corn fields to help promote fertility.
