Firefighters arrived to cool down the scene
A Saskatchewan farm business is recognizing its employees and the community for springing into action to put out a fire.
“Thankfully, thanks to the quick response and teamwork of our staff, neighbours, and the Borden Fire Department, the situation was brought under control quickly, with minimal damage,” Walker Farms said on its Facebook page on Oct. 21. “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who jumped in.”
Borden firefighters responded to a call about a grain dryer and truck on fire at the fourth-generation cattle and grain farm in the RM of Great Bend.
When they arrived on scene, the bulk of the firefighting had already occurred using fire extinguishers and water.
“The fire was more or less contained when we got there,” Fire Chief Ian Wainwright told paNOW. “We put out the truck and cooled things down, and that was about it.”
Between the loss of the small diesel grain dryer and the truck, the fire caused about $40,000 in damage, Wainwright added.
Walker Farms also owns and operates the lone wooden grain elevator in the community, which has been in the family for generations.
The fire caused minor damage to the elevator.
