Rising Costs and Low Prices Fuel Calls for New Farm Bill
Ahead of the Senate Agriculture Committee’s markup of the Agricultural Act of 2026, the American Soybean Association is urging lawmakers to prioritize a new bipartisan farm bill that addresses current challenges facing the agricultural sector.
ASA stressed that a five-year bill is needed to provide farmers with long-term certainty and continued support.
"America's soybean farmers continue to face a challenging farm economy marked by rising input costs, low commodity prices, and continued trade uncertainty," said ASA President and Ohio soybean farmer Scott Metzger.
"Now is the time for Congress to come together and pass a farm bill that supports the agricultural community and reflects today's economic realities across the finish line. Congress is once again nearing the expiration of the thrice extended 2018 Farm Bill and time is running out to deliver a new farm bill to America’s farmers."
The association is asking the Senate Agriculture Committee to work toward a bipartisan solution that advances the Agricultural Act of 2026 and helps complete a five-year farm bill package during the current year.
