Acquisition strengthens global biological insect control solutions

BASF Agricultural Solutions has officially completed the acquisition of AgBiTech on March 31, 2026. This development follows an agreement signed in January with Paine Schwartz Partners and other shareholders, along with the successful approval from regulatory authorities.

The acquisition is an important step in BASF’s strategy to expand its biological crop protection portfolio. Biological solutions are becoming more popular in agriculture as farmers look for sustainable and effective ways to manage pests. By adding AgBiTech’s technologies, BASF aims to provide more diverse insect control options to growers around the world.

“The biologicals market continues to expand at a strong pace. Acquiring AgBiTech strengthens our position in this attractive segment and complements our existing portfolio with proven biological technologies,” said Livio Tedeschi, President of BASF Agricultural Solutions.

“We warmly welcome our new colleagues, and I am confident that, together, we will accelerate meaningful progress for our customers and for agriculture by further expanding biological solutions across global markets,” said Tedeschi.

AgBiTech has built a strong presence in Brazil, one of the fastest-growing markets for biological crop protection. This strong regional base offers BASF an opportunity to expand these solutions to other global markets. The company plans to integrate AgBiTech’s products into its broader crop protection portfolio while maintaining flexibility and customer focus.

“Joining BASF marks an important milestone for AgBiTech’s mission to make biological insect control accessible to farmers worldwide,” said Adriano Vilas-Boas, CEO of AgBiTech.

“BASF’s global reach, strong R&D ecosystem and deep agricultural expertise will help accelerate the impact of our technologies. We are proud of what our teams have built and excited for this next chapter,” said Vilas-Boas.

Overall, the acquisition supports BASF’s long-term commitment to innovation and sustainability in agriculture. It also helps farmers access advanced tools to manage pests effectively while protecting the environment.
