Government Renews Leadership to Strengthen Agricultural Policy and Oversight Systems
The Honourable Heath MacDonald has announced the reappointment of Brian Douglas as Chairperson of the Farm Products Council of Canada. His new term will begin on June 11, 2026, and will continue until October 2, 2027. This decision reflects the government’s confidence in experienced leadership to guide Canada’s agriculture sector.
Mr. Douglas is a graduate of the University of Guelph and brings 41 years of distinguished public service experience. Over his long career, he has developed a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges faced by Canadian producers. His work has helped improve agricultural policies and support systems across the country.
He has held several senior leadership roles within the Government of Prince Edward Island. These include Clerk of the Executive and Secretary to the Cabinet, as well as Deputy Minister for positions in Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, and Agriculture.
Much of his career was spent with the PEI Department of Agriculture, where he led the Agriculture Resource Division and Farm Extension Services. In these roles, he worked closely with communities to support agricultural growth and rural development.
In addition to his provincial work, Mr. Douglas has represented Prince Edward Island on many provincial and national boards and committees related to agriculture and infrastructure. For the past four years, he has served as Chairperson and Deputy Head of the FPCC. During this time, his leadership has helped advance the organization's mandate and strengthen its role in the agriculture sector.

The Farm Products Council of Canada plays an important role as a federal oversight body. It supervises marketing agencies responsible for the supply management system for poultry and eggs. It also oversees promotion and research agencies in Canada.
The council works to promote an efficient and competitive agriculture industry. In addition, it advises the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food on matters related to agencies established under the Farm Products Agencies Act and the Agricultural Products Marketing Act.
