BASF partnered with Prairie Proud on apparel
A limited release of clothing will see sale proceeds donated to supporting mental health in agriculture.
2027 will mark 30 years of InVigor hybrid canola.
To kick off these celebrations, BASF and Prairie Proud came together on a clothing collection.
“Growing up in a small farming community, I learned early on that agriculture is about far more than what happens in the field. It’s about the people, families and communities that work tirelessly to support and sustain an industry that feeds the world,” Cole Thorpe, founder of Prairie Proud, said in a statement.
The InVigor x Prairie Proud collection features InVigor and BASF-branded hats, t-shirts, and zip-up hoodies for kids and adults.
“All proceeds from this apparel is going to go to the Do More Ag Foundation to support mental health in agriculture,” Mark Alberts, senior brand manager, InVigor, told Farms.com.
Mental health is an important topic in ag.
A 2021 survey of more than 1,200 producers found 76 per cent of Canadian farmers were experiencing high levels of stress.
“I grew up on a farm. I can certainly relate to some of those years when things weren’t going so well,” Alberts said.
The collection is available on Prairie Proud’s website.
A final tally of the donation to the Do More Ag Foundation will be released when clothing supplies run out and the figure is available.
BASF launched its first InVigor hybrid – InVigor 2153 – in 1997.
This hybrid was a gamechanger because it was the first LibertyLink hybrid on the market in Western Canada, said Alberts, who was in fourth grade when the hybrid became available for farmers.
Other notable InVigor hybrids include 5440, and L252.
BASF launched L252 in 2013.
“That was a bit of a step change in terms of yield potential,” Alberts said. “It won a lot of yield trials for seven or eight years. But as the market evolved to straight cutting practices, that hybrid didn’t have that trait.”
BASF is also launching three new hybrids for the 2027 season.
InVigor L342PC is a second-generation clubroot resistant hybrid.
“It’s going to have a super strong fit in areas where the pathotypes continue to evolve,” Alberts said. “It has strong standability and an overall great disease package with high yield potential.”
L346PC is a mid-maturing hybrid. It represents a step up in yield protection from L345PC or L340PC.
The final new hybrid is Invigor Choice LR347PC.
This hybrid combines high yield potential with flexibility for farmers using Liberty or Roundup.
