Celebrating The Vital Role of Farms of Every Size and Region

American agriculture is a vibrant mix of regions and products, ranging from vast ranches in the West to small dairies in the Northeast. This diversity keeps our nation’s pantries full and supports a stable food supply. From leafy greens to apples and butter, every farm, big or small, plays a crucial role in feeding families across the country.

The American Farm Bureau continues to represent farms of all sizes across all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Most members come from small- and medium-sized farms, with 97% being family-owned, reflecting USDA data. Yet, many of these farms face growing challenges due to financial pressures and limited access to essential government resources.

The recent government shutdown has left farmers waiting for critical relief, loans, and market reports that help them plan their next steps. Smaller farms are especially affected, as they depend heavily on local USDA offices and support services.

Meanwhile, farm income continues to decline due to low crop prices, rising costs, and ongoing trade disputes. Farmers are calling for swift action to reopen trade markets, pass a new farm bill, and address the labor crisis that impacts production.

Despite these hardships, the spirit of American agriculture remains strong. With innovation, support, and new opportunities for young farmers, a sustainable future for farming is achievable. “A bright future for agriculture is absolutely possible,” the Farm Bureau leader affirmed. Together, farmers and lawmakers can ensure America remains food secure for generations to come.
