Twenty collection events across southern Saskatchewan will help farmers reduce environmental risks while promoting safe pesticide and livestock medication disposal.

Farmers across southern Saskatchewan will have opportunities to safely dispose of unwanted pesticides and expired livestock and equine medications through Cleanfarms’ Unwanted Pesticides and Livestock/Equine Medications (UPLM) program from October 26 to 30, 2026.

The initiative offers free disposal of unwanted commercial-class pesticides and obsolete animal medications, helping protect agricultural land, water resources, livestock and rural communities from potential contamination.

The program operates on a three-year rotating schedule across Canada. While southern Saskatchewan hosts this year’s collections, the program will return to northern Saskatchewan, north of Davidson, in 2027.

Twenty single-day collection events are scheduled throughout southern Saskatchewan, with each operating from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Saskatchewan farmers have a proud history of commitment to responsible environmental stewardship,” said UPLM’s Program Coordinator Heather Bradley. “At the previous events here, Swift Current and Moose Jaw had record-breaking volumes, which is why we’re doubling the number of events in those communities this time.”

Cleanfarms organizes the initiative in partnership with the Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI), providing farmers and ranchers with a responsible option for disposing of unwanted or expired livestock and equine medications.

“CAHI members are proud to support Saskatchewan’s farmers and ranchers through our long-standing partnership with Cleanfarms," said Dr. Catherine Filejski, President and CEO of the Canadian Animal Health Institute. "This free program offers a safe way to dispose of unwanted or expired livestock medications, helping protect animals, farms and communities across the province,”

Farmers are encouraged to review the program’s accepted and excluded materials and confirm collection-site details before attending. Further information is available on Cleanfarms’ UPLM program webpage.
