A new World Egg Day video highlights the role Canadian egg producers play in the country’s food system.

Egg Farmers of Canada is celebrating—October 9—by recognizing the 1,290 egg farmers and farm families who produce eggs across the country.

Observed annually on the second Friday of October, World Egg Day shines a spotlight on the nutritional value of eggs and the farmers responsible for producing them. This year’s celebration also marks the event’s 30th anniversary.

According to Egg Farmers of Canada, Canadian egg producers work within the country’s supply management system to help provide consumers with a dependable year-round supply of eggs while meeting food safety and animal welfare standards.

“The care and commitment of egg farmers extends well beyond the farm gate—they play an important role in strengthening Canada’s food system and contributing to Canada’s bright food future,” said Roger Pelissero, third-generation egg farmer and Chair of Egg Farmers of Canada. “There is a strong sense of purpose behind every Canadian egg. Today, we honour the people who have built their lives around feeding our communities and ensuring a resilient and dependable supply of eggs across Canada.”

To mark the occasion, Egg Farmers of Canada has released a video featuring Canadian egg farmers and highlighting their contributions to egg production across the country. The organization is encouraging Canadians to participate in the celebration on social media using the hashtag #CanadianEggs and by tagging @eggsoeufs.
