The Canadian Government has announced a significant proposal to enhance farmer supports under the AgriStability program.
The new plan includes increasing the compensation rate from 80% to 90% and temporarily doubling the payment cap to $6 million for the 2025 program year.
This proposal aims to offer much-needed support to farmers affected by recent trade disruptions, particularly those impacted by China’s tariffs.
The proposed temporary increase in the payment cap, which has remained unchanged for over 20 years, is expected to help more producers, particularly those with larger farm operations, receive timely financial assistance.
