Canada’s ag industry is part of the equation when it comes to the country’s continued relationship with Japan.
A March 6 joint statement by Prime Minister Mark Carney and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi indicates establishing a “comprehensive strategic partnership,” which includes ag.
Part of that partnership makes mention of food security.
As part of that commitment, Japan and Canada commit to leveraging the bilateral Agriculture Dialogue to work towards resilient and sustainable ag production, streamlined import processes, and to support predictable ag trade.
The two countries established the commitment in 2023.
For Canada’s part, it promises to be a reliable ag trading partner for Japan.
This includes “by being a predictable supplier of safe, high-quality agricultural products,” a roadmap towards the comprehensive partnership says.
