Federal and Alberta government officials joined Enhance Energy on September 9 to mark the start of construction of the Origins Carbon Capture Storage Hub near Clive, Alta.
According to Natural Resources Canada, the facility is expected to begin operations in January 2027 and will initially be capable of permanently storing up to 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
The project is expected to become the largest CCS facility in Canada and one of the largest in the world.
The project will connect to Alberta's existing carbon dioxide transportation network and initially serve industrial emitters in the province's Industrial Heartland.
