One inevitability is that the 2026 harvest will be an expensive one because of high diesel prices.
To put the increased costs into perspective, Farms.com compared diesel prices in mid-September with those of past years and calculating how much farmers are spending to fill different combines.
At $5.967 per gallon, a farmer would spend $1,969 to fill a Johnn Deere X9 1100 combine and its 330-gallon tank.
In 2016, when diesel was $2.407 per gallon, the same combine would’ve cost $794 to fill.
