President Donald Trump announced on August 28 that his administration will pursue changes aimed at allowing farmers and ranchers to process their own meat.
In response to the President's latest announcement, the North American Meat Institute issued a statement.
The statement highlighted producers can process animals under a custom exemption.
It also warned that permitting uninspected or inadequately inspected meat to enter commercial markets could undermine consumer confidence and jeopardize what it describes as one of the world's safest meat supply systems.
